==School facilities==
Lakeville South High School was completed in 2005, designed by Wold Architects. It has a total of and an 1,800 student capacity.
The building is situated on a south-west, north-west axis on the site. The entire layout of the building revolves around the “active commons”.. The classroom wing, auditorium, and athletic facilities are located off this space. The classroom wing houses all academic activities including industrial tech spaces. A noticeable design feature of the wing is the radius wall that encloses the space. The result is natural light in each classroom since each room is located along this wall. Labs are located on the inner portion of the wing. The Classrooms are connected to the commons space by “passive” commons spaces that include the locker bays, bathrooms, and meeting areas. The center of the classroom space is the administration offices (first floor), teacher offices (second floor), and the media center (third floor). All these spaces have windows facing into the “active” commons to allow natural light in. Above these spaces is the mechanical enclosure for the classroom wing and commons.
The “active” commons is a three story atrium space and is approximately in diameter. A mezzanine level connects classroom spaces to the auditorium and to the athletic facilities. It has a slight increase in elevation over its length to accommodate the higher level of the auditorium balcony. The entire space is completely surrounded in windows that allow natural light to flood the interior portions of the building. It has a “floating” acoustic ceiling over the dining space that follows the linoleum floor line. The rest of the space is carpeted.
The auditorium and performing arts area is located on the eastern portion of the commons. It includes spaces for music classes and a 1,000-seat auditorium. The auditorium has a symmetrical layout with balcony seating that wraps into the lower seating which makes it possible to go from the lower seating to the upper seating without leaving the auditorium. Brick accents and custom lighting give the space a dramatic feeling. The layout is very similar if not identical to that of Hastings High School. A scene shop is located directly behind the stage area.
Lakeville South has a comprehensive athletic facilities. Included in this portion of the school is a game gym with stadium seating and a walking track, a four court auxiliary gym, fitness center, wrestling room, dance studio with two walls of full length mirrors, full gymnastics gym/complex, concessions center, bathrooms, locker rooms for home and away teams, meeting rooms, and a lecture hall and storage spaces.
The building structure is mainly steel and masonry block, while poured walls are used at below-grade areas. The classroom wing is composed of pre-cast floors, and steel framed roofing covered in a masonry block and brick curtain wall. This type of construction is carried through to the athletic facilities. The commons space is supported by steel trusses and completely covered in glass curtain wall systems.
